3 out of 5 stars Ok but some drawbacks   February 6, 2010

This is ok and the feather attachment moves through the air like a bird, which is great fun, but the pole itself has 2 serious design flaws: first the hook that attaches the different toys to the pole is sharp metal, as is the top of each toy. So when a cat grabs it with gusto in play, there is a chance of them getting an eye or mouth hurt. Second, the line is too short and made of a string that tends to twist and knot. My friend bought a cheap real fishing pole (fly fishing I think) for much less money and it allows for much more fun in the living room. So that's what I'll get soon and just find a way to attach these toys to it.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointing   January 19, 2010

I was so looking forward to having this toy for my cat who lives solo since the loss of his sister. Because he no longer has a playmate I wanted to give him some exercise and fun. He loved this toy, but alas, the string which is used as the "fishing line" is of such poor quality that it barely lasted through two or three hours of playtime. I have tried repairing the broken string by tying it back onto the remaining piece, but as soon as he slaps at it, it breaks again. This would be an axcellent toy IF they were to use a stronger string. As it is, this toy - a great idea - is worth about $1.98. I am very disappointed and would advise others to save their money.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Toy!   December 18, 2009
Kristen P. Nelson (Anchorage, AK USA)
I recieved this is a wonderful cat toy as a gift and it quickly rose to the top of the pile of winter entertainment at the house. The entertainment derived from this toy is rivaled only by the laser light toy.

I like the feather lure since it spins as the lure is pulled through the air. The feather is difficult for the cats to grab, so they have to work very hard to grab and hold it; making play last longer. Both of my cats get very worked up playing, and the resulting acrobatics are delightful! The toy has held up through some very rough play, including with my large dogs.

5 out of 5 stars Cat Fishing   November 19, 2009

We own two cats. Two wonderful cats who ache for stimulating play. My husband and I found out recently that the best toy and I mean the best toy is any toy that has string and a toy or lure attached to it. This one - purchased here - definitely gets the job done - with multiple lures - the cats never get board. This is now one of three fishing rods that we use regularly to keep them interested and appropriately stimulated. We also rigged a real fishing pole with a heavier gauge line and the lures from a cat toy fishing pole that broke after about 20 minutes of play. If I ever get my stuff together I will post a video here of my cats having the time of their lives with this toy as well as our homemade version. I have to say - no other cat toy really excites our cats for any length of time. Yes - the cat fishing toys require our involvement and yes it would be nice if someone could invent a fishing pole based cat toy that casts itself but short of this - 15 minutes of playtime with the cats seems a small investment for the pay off. Besides that both my husband and myself have never laughed so hard. Watching them play is great amusement, so its all good for all of us.
