Downloaded cd into memory disk.Looks good so far. Can't wait to try it in the woods.
essential for hikers June 16, 2010 Kate --Cook & Reader (Oneida, NY, USA) The higher resolution made this a must-have upgrade for our GPS unit. As we tackle NY State's 46 highest peaks, the information about the terrain and distances is invaluable. A quality product that is easy to install and use.
Software does what it's supposed to. June 14, 2010 S Bouvier (Central NJ) This software does what it's supposed to do, i.e., it works with the Garmin Handheld GPS I bought. The streets and landmarks are accurate, as far as I can tell. And that's what I expected, from what I read from others' reviews of Garmin GPS units and Garmin software. However, it still doesn't do what I really want it to do, which is to allow me to superimpose hiking trails from either a paper map or a .pdf or .jpg file into the software and then trace the trails into the .gpx file. So, in addition to the money I shelled out for the GPS unit and the topo software, I also had to buy a third-party software to allow me to do exactly what I wanted. You'd think that a GPS unit intended for hiking would allow its buyer to do this task, but it doesn't.
Works Well May 10, 2010 Randy Given (Manchester, CT USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This works well on my desktop (MapSource) and GPS (Garmin 76Cx). I like seeing the detail in both. The GPS is a bit slow in processing between zooms and movement. It might not be as noticeable in newer hardware. That's not a fault of the product, though.
I like having state lands (parks and forests) indicated and even many trails. Even the routing is adequate enough that I often keep my City Navigator in the dash and just use the Topo.
I had a problem loading the 3.8G onto a 4G MicroSD. I'm not sure where the problem was, but customer support was helpful in getting me running. I copied to an 8G card and then transferred to the 4G and everything was fine.
Well worth the money for me.
Garmin 24K NE Topo Map Software April 3, 2010 Jerome R. Heiman (Campbellsport, Wisconsin, USA) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Software loaded in computer and was compatible with existing Garmin MapSource software on desktop. Selected maps loaded into my Garmin GPS and functioned normally on the map page. My only negative comment would be the detail of the maps. Detail in regards land types (lowlands, etc.) was not carried over from the original 24K topo maps. Otherwise the maps added much to the funtionability of my handheld GPS.
